Aston villa beat Everton 2-1 thanks to goals by Danny Ings and Emi Buendia. The argentine scored with a fierce left-footed strike in the 31st minute. Ings turned inside the penalty area after receiving a pass from Ollie Watkins.
Aston villa and Everton were both 16th in the standings when they appointed Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard to shepherd their respective campaigns in 2021-22. Lampard replaced Dean Smith with toffees having won just one of their last 14 matches. He was sacked by Chelsea in January 2021 and replaced Rafa Benitez.
