The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has drafted a legislation on regularisation of contractual employees in Punjab. The previous Punjab government had floated the Punjab Protection and Regularisation of Contractual Employees Bill-2021 on November 11, 2021. Governor Banwarilal Purohit, had not given his assent on the Bill, and raised six questions.
The West Bengal Private University Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed by a voice vote. Opposition BJP MLAs staged a walkout, protesting against the move. The Bill proposes to make the Education Minister the Visitor of 11 private universities in the state, replacing the Governor.
The West Bengal Assembly passed a Bill that will replace the Governor with the Chief Minister as chancellor of all the state-run universities. In the 294-member Assembly, the Bill was passed by 183-40 votes, with BJP MLAs opposing it. Education Minister Bratya Basu said there was “nothing wrong” in the chief minister taking over.
The Turban Day Act was introduced in the Manitoba House as a private members Bill. The Bill underwent its first reading on March 24, 2022, the second reading on April 7 and the third on May 26. It finally got the Royal Assent on June 1. Diljeet Singh Brar, the MLA of Burrows, said that it was necessary to have a day that officially recognises the turban as a part of Canada’s diversity and multiculturalism.
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was replaced as the Chancellor of state-run universities. The state assembly passed the Chancellor Bill on Monday. The cabinet had, on May 26, approved a proposal to replace the Governor as the chancellor of varsities. The Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has threatened to take this matter to the court.
