Manipur police detain 80 Myanmar nationals from Churachandpur district

The Manipur Police apprehended 80 Myanmar nationals, including 20 children, from Churachandpur district. The apprehended persons, including 25 men and 35 women, failed to produce valid documents to justify their presence in Indian territory. They disclosed that they were all citizens of Myanmar, the police said. The operation was carried out between 5 am and 8:30 am on Tuesday.

Children among 80 Myanmar nationals arrested in Manipur

The Myanmar nationals were apprehended from different places during a massive operation launched early in the morning in the Ngathal village, Manipur. Those arrested include 25 men, 35 women and 20 minors. A local court remanded the 60 adults to police custody for seven days while the minors were sent to a juvenile observation home.

Situation critical in Myanmar with mounting resistance to military junta

Last month, Myanmar recorded 647 conflict linked fatalities including 34 civilians, 581 security forces, three militants and 32 in fighting between pro-government and resistance forces. The overall fatalities in May registered a one-and-a-half-fold increase as compared to April with security force fatalities increasing by 71.89 per cent.
