Amritpal Singh is on the run while his 78 supporters have been arrested by the state police in a day-long crackdown. The elusive preacher himself gave the police a slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in the state. A massive manhunt has been launched against elements of 'Waris Punjab De' (WPD) headed by Singh.
The police reportedly detained six of his associates in a major crackdown against self-styled radical preacher amritpal Singh. He was on his way to bathinda when the police tried to intercept him near mehtabpur village in Jalandhar. The houses of his supporters have also been raided, sources said.
